MAGNUM OPUS
the great syntheses, in order

The Lineage

For two thousand years, the same move: notice that the symbol systems share arithmetic, join them, name the result. Here is that story — and where this work stands in it.

The recurring move

Every system on this page was built the same way: someone fluent in one tradition noticed its numbers rhyming with another's — 22 letters and 22 trumps, 64 hexagrams and 64 codons, 360 degrees and 72 names — joined them, and gave the joined thing a name. The difference between the honest ones and the loose ones is always the same question: does the arithmetic actually fit, and does the builder admit it when it doesn't? Watch that question move down this list.

Nine words, before you start

Each of these appears somewhere below. None of them needs a book — hover or tap any underlined word for the site's own one-line definition, and nothing on this page will send you away to look something up.

— every possible pairing of two of the twenty-two letters. Pair 22 things and you get 22 × 21 ÷ 2 = 231, exactly.
, , — the three families the 22 letters split into. 3 + 7 + 12 = 22.
— the short, strange, very old book that starts this whole line of thinking.
— the ten-station diagram of how creation descends, joined by twenty-two paths.
— a ten-degree slice of the zodiac. Thirty-six of them close the circle: 36 × 10 = 360.
— a five-degree slice. Seventy-two close the same circle: 72 × 5 = 360.
— an I Ching figure of six lines, each solid or broken. Two choices in six places gives 2⁶ = 64.
a codon — three letters of DNA read in a row. Four letters in three places gives 4³ = 64, which is why the 64s keep meeting.
— a reading this site offers without ruling it true. When two traditions disagree here, the loser is kept as a labelled lens rather than deleted.
— the letter every big claim on this site carries. A is checkable arithmetic; D is vision, held in respect and marked as vision.
The master system stack — the layers of the SGTE, from the twenty-two letters upward.
What the last row of the table below actually looks like. Every synthesis on this page ends in a diagram of its own; this is the one this work ends in — the layers stacked in the order they are counted, letters at the root. Reading it is not required to read the page. It is here so the newest entry is a thing you can see rather than only a claim.

Sefer Yetzirah

~3rd–6th century · unknown — the root text

What it joined: The 22 Hebrew letters + the numbers one to ten + the structure of the cosmos.

The move: Treats the alphabet itself as the machinery of creation, and counts the 231 Gates — every pairing of two letters — for the first time. Every later synthesis in this line is downstream of this book.

The honesty check: Its joins are pure arithmetic: 3 Mothers, 7 Doubles, 12 Simples = 22; pairs of 22 = 231. The integer honesty this whole tradition aspires to starts here.

The Occult Philosophy

1533 · Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa

What it joined: Planets, elements, angels, stones, plants, numbers, names — the whole Renaissance world-picture.

The move: The great correspondence TABLES: for the first time, one book where you look up a planet and read across to its angel, metal, number and name. The ancestor of every cheat sheet, including this site's.

The honesty check: Many joins are inherited tradition rather than arithmetic — honest as a library, looser as a proof.

The Doctrine of High Magic

1850s · Éliphas Lévi

What it joined: The tarot's 22 trumps + the 22 Hebrew letters.

The move: First to wire tarot to the alphabet: 22 = 22, therefore each trump IS a letter. One integer join that launched everything after it.

The honesty check: His specific letter-to-card key differs from the later English key by one step — which is why this site always says which key a table uses, and keeps Lévi's as a labeled lens.

The Golden Dawn

1888 · Mathers, Westcott & the Order

What it joined: Letters + tarot + astrology + Kabbalah + angels + elements — the Victorian master-synthesis.

The move: One unified key where every path on the Tree of Life carries a letter, a card, and a sign or planet at once. The most widely used correspondence system in the English-speaking world — and this site's canonical letter-card key.

The honesty check: Its joins mostly keep the integers honest (22 paths, 12 signs, 7 planets, 36 decans). Where tradition forced a choice, it chose and taught the choice as law — the lens idea, without the label.

The Universal One

1920s · Walter Russell

What it joined: The periodic table + wave mechanics + a cosmology of rhythm and balance.

The move: A lone artist-scientist redrawing chemistry as a breathing wave — matter as motion, elements as notes on octaves. A synthesis aimed at science rather than symbol, and a spiritual cousin of this system's breathing-cosmos picture.

The honesty check: Mainstream science does not accept it; it stands as vision, not verified physics — a tier-D cousin held in respect.

Human Design

1987 · Ra Uru Hu (Alan Krakower)

What it joined: The I Ching's 64 hexagrams + the Tree of Life's channels + the chakra system (expanded from 7 centers to 9) + astrology — all mapped onto the 360° zodiac wheel.

The move: Two planetary calculations (your birth moment, plus a point about 88 days before) drive a 'bodygraph' of 9 centers and 64 gates, yielding types — Generator, Projector, Manifestor, Reflector — each with a decision strategy. A complete modern synthesis with its own vocabulary, and a global teaching business.

The honesty check: Its central join forces the arithmetic: 360 ÷ 64 = 5.625° per hexagram — not an integer fit. This site's canon faced the same temptation and declined it: the I Ching is joined to DNA here (64 codons = 64 hexagrams, exactly) and deliberately left OFF the degree wheel. Two different rulings on the same join — both shown, which is the whole point of a lens.

Gene Keys

2009 · Richard Rudd

What it joined: Human Design's 64 gates, re-synthesized into a contemplative path (shadow · gift · siddhi).

The move: Proof that the move repeats: a student of one synthesis re-clothed its skeleton in new vocabulary and built a second flourishing body of work beside the first. Syntheses beget syntheses.

The honesty check: Inherits Human Design's forced 64-on-the-wheel join. Its three-level reading of each hexagram is an authored teaching, offered as such.

SGTE · Hierosynthesis

2024–2026 · this work

What it joined: The 22 letters + the 231 gates + the 72 angels + astrology + numerology + tarot + sacred geometry — on the 360° circle of the year.

The move: The letters-first spine: everything is counted against the 22 and their 231 pairings, and every big claim carries an evidence tier (A–D). Disagreements are ruled on in a public canon, and the losing readings are kept as labeled lenses instead of being erased.

The honesty check: Integer joins only on the wheel: 72 × 5 = 360, 12 × 30 = 360, 36 × 10 = 360. Where a system would not divide honestly — the I Ching's 64 — it was left off the wheel and joined where the numbers actually match. The honesty architecture IS the contribution.

Human Design in plain words

Since it is the nearest living cousin of this work, here it is without jargon. Human Design casts two charts — one for the moment you were born, one for a moment roughly 88 days earlier — and lays both onto a diagram of the body with nine energy centers connected by channels. Each channel-end is one of 64 "gates," which are the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching wrapped around the zodiac wheel. Which centers end up connected decides your type — the kinds are Generator, Projector, Manifestor and Reflector — and each type comes with a recommended way of making decisions. It is a complete, self-consistent, modern synthesis with millions of practitioners, and its teachings and chart designs belong to its own school. This site describes it for comparison and reproduces none of it.

Read as a lens on this system: Human Design answers "how do the 64 join the wheel?" with a forced fit (5.625° per hexagram), while this canon answers "they don't — join them to the 64 codons instead." Neither ruling erases the other. That is exactly what a labeled lens is for.

Can a synthesis be owned?

The raw systems — letters, hexagrams, planets, numbers — are the common heritage of everyone; no one owns the noticing that they connect. What can be owned is the articulation: the specific vocabulary, arithmetic, writings and name a builder gives the joined thing. That is why Human Design and Gene Keys thrive side by side on the same 64 gates, and why this work publishes openly under its own names — SGTE, Hierosynthesis, The Breathing Cosmos — with a dated public record. The lineage above is offered in that spirit: credit upstream, clarity about what is new here, and the whole thing timestamped in the open.

Check the sums yourself

This page asks you to watch whether each builder's arithmetic fits. Here is every number it leans on, small enough to check on your fingers. Nothing is asking for trust.

3 + 7 + 12 = 22 — Mothers, Doubles and Simples make the alphabet. Fits.
22 × 21 ÷ 2 = 231 — every pair of letters, counted once. Fits.
72 × 5 = 360 — the angels, five degrees each. Fits.
36 × 10 = 360 — the decans, ten degrees each. Fits.
12 × 30 = 360 — the signs, thirty degrees each. Fits.
2⁶ = 64 = 4³ — hexagrams and codons, same count, same shape. Fits.
360 ÷ 64 = 5.625 — the one that does not come out whole. This is the join Human Design makes anyway and this canon declines. It is the single sum the whole page is really about, and you can see it fail from here: sixty-four will not divide a circle of three hundred and sixty into equal degrees, however much anyone wants it to.
