The Genetic Bridge: DNA, the Letters, and the Sky

The four letters of DNA beside the four elements. The 64 three-letter words of the genetic code beside the 64 hexagrams. The 20 amino acids plus start and stop beside the 22 Hebrew letters. The 88 constellations beside the 88 elements up to radium. Four bridges, each explained in plain words, each labeled for exactly what it is.

Every living thing on Earth is written in the same alphabet. It has four letters. They are read three at a time, which gives sixty-four possible words. Those words name twenty building blocks, plus a word for begin and a word for end. That is the whole genetic code — it fits on an index card, and it has not changed in a few billion years.

This site is built on wheels of the same sizes: four elements, sixty-four hexagrams, twenty-two letters, and the 88-spoke sky. The owner has asked, more times than anyone has counted, whether those wheels line up with the code of the body. This page is the honest answer. Two of the matches are structural — the 4 and the 64 arise the same way on both sides (two yes/no choices per letter, three letters per word). Two are count-matches — 22 and 88 — that the system proposes to read together. None of it is established science, and the page says so wherever it matters.

The Words Used on This Page

Nothing below should need a dictionary. If a word is new to you, it is explained here first.

DNA — the long molecule in every cell that stores the instructions for building you. Picture a twisted ladder; each rung is made of two chemical letters.
RNA — the working copy of a stretch of DNA, read by the cell's protein-making machinery. It spells with U where DNA spells with T.
Nucleotide / base — one of the four chemical letters: A, T (U in RNA), G, C.
Base pair — two letters holding hands across the ladder. A always with T, G always with C — never otherwise.
Purine / pyrimidine — the two-ring letters (A, G) and the one-ring letters (T/U, C). Every rung is one of each, so the ladder stays the same width.
Codon — three letters read in a row — a three-letter word. Four letters, three places: 4 × 4 × 4 = 64 words.
Amino acid — a building block of protein. There are 20 kinds. Each codon names one — or says 'start' or 'stop'.
Protein — a chain of amino acids folded into a working part of you: muscle, enzyme, hormone, antibody.
Start / stop — AUG says 'begin the chain here' (and also means methionine). UAA, UAG and UGA say 'end here'.
Essential — an amino acid your body cannot make and must get from food. Nine are essential; six more are 'conditionally' essential (needed in illness, growth or stress).
Hexagram — an I Ching figure of six stacked lines, each solid (yang) or broken (yin). Two choices, six places: 2⁶ = 64 figures.
King Wen order — the traditional numbering of the 64 hexagrams, from 1 The Creative to 64 Before Completion — the order our I Ching page uses.
Bigram — a pair of lines. Six lines are three bigrams, the way a codon is three bases.
Constellation — one of the 88 official regions of the sky, named for the pictures people drew among the stars. The list was fixed by the International Astronomical Union between 1922 and 1930.
Chemical element — a kind of atom, numbered by how many protons it carries: hydrogen is 1, carbon 6, gold 79, radium 88.
Lens — our word for a proposed way of reading one system through another. A lens is a suggestion to try on, not a proof.

1 · The Four Letters of DNA ↔ The Four Elements

Why this pairingBoth alphabets have four letters, and in both the four are really two pairs of opposites. In DNA, A only ever pairs with T and G only ever with C; in the Sefer Yetzirah, Fire (Shin) stands against Water (Mem) with Air (Aleph) between, and Earth is where the three settle — the site's Tav.

The lens: each rung of the ladder is a big two-ring letter holding a small one-ring letter. We read the two big letters (A, G) as the two light elements, Air and Fire, and the two small letters (T, C) as the two heavy elements, Earth and Water. The looser two-bond rung (A–T) becomes Air–Earth; the tighter three-bond rung (G–C) becomes Fire–Water. This assignment is the system's own proposal — a lens, not a finding of biology. Biology assigns no elements to bases at all.

A
Adenine

Mother
AirA for Aleph. The big two-ring base on the lighter-held rung — the light, quick, in-between element. And A–T is Aleph–Tav: first letter and last, the whole alphabet in one rung.
T
Thymine (in RNA its stand-in is Uracil, U)
pyrimidine — one ring, the smaller shapeA2 — the lighter gripת Tav
Double · Saturn
EarthT for Tav — the mark, the seal, the last letter. The small one-ring base that Adenine holds: the dense, settled element that closes the span Aleph opens.
G
Guanine
purine — two rings, the larger shapeC3 — the stronger gripש Shin

FireThe three-bond pair is the hotter, tighter pair. Guanine is its big, active two-ring base — Fire, the rising Mother.
C
Cytosine
pyrimidine — one ring, the smaller shapeG3 — the stronger gripמ Mem
Mother
WaterThe small receptive base of the strong pair — Water, the deep Mother. G–C is Shin–Mem, Fire meeting Water: the very opposition the Sefer Yetzirah says Aleph (Air) stands between and balances.
A note on Tav: the three Mothers are Air, Water and Fire. Earth, in the Sefer Yetzirah, is not a fourth Mother but the settled state the three make together — and on this site that settled state is carried by Tav, the Double letter of Saturn and the seal. That is why the fourth base lands on a Double, not a Mother. In RNA, Thymine is replaced by Uracil (U); read U wherever you see T in the 64-codon table below.

2 · The 64 Codons ↔ The 64 Hexagrams

Why this pairingThis is the deepest of the four bridges, and the reason it has been drawn by others before us (Martin Schönberger, 1973; Johnson Yan, 1991). A codon is three places each filled by one of four letters: 4³ = 64. A hexagram is six places each filled by one of two lines: 2⁶ = 64. And four is two twos — so every base can be written as a pair of lines, and three bases become six lines. The two codes have the same shape, not just the same size.

Two lenses are shown. The default is the ordinal lens: codon 1 in the textbook order (UUU) sits beside hexagram 1 in King Wen order (The Creative), and so on down to GGG beside 64. The second is the binary lens: each base answers two yes/no questions — is it a two-ring base? is it a strong three-bond base? — which turns it into a pair of lines; the three pairs, bottom to top, make a hexagram that the I Ching page will recognise. The pairing of the questions to the lines is this site's own choice and is labeled 'pending the author's ruling'. Scroll inside the box for all 64 rows.

Reading the bigrams: ⚏ is U (one ring, weak), ⚎ is C (one ring, strong), ⚍ is A (two rings, weak), ⚌ is G (two rings, strong). The first base is the bottom pair of lines. Under the binary lens UUU becomes six broken lines — hexagram 2, The Receptive — and GGG six solid lines — hexagram 1, The Creative: the code’s two extremes land on the I Ching’s two poles. Shaded rows are the start codon and the three stop codons.

3 · The 20 Amino Acids + Start + Stop ↔ The 22 Letters

Why this pairingTwenty building blocks, one word for 'begin', one word for 'end': 22 signals. Twenty-two Hebrew letters. Both are the full alphabet from which every word is built — proteins on one side, the worlds of the Sefer Yetzirah on the other. This is a count-match; the rule below is how we propose to line the two up.

The rule — the degeneracy lens, pending the author's ruling: the code does not say every amino acid the same number of ways. Exactly three acids are said six ways (Leucine, Serine, Arginine) — they take the three Mothers. Five acids are said four ways, one whole family box each (Proline, Threonine, Valine, Alanine, Glycine); with the start and stop signals they make seven, the Doubles — Start on Bet, the letter that opens Genesis, Stop on Tav, the seal and last letter, the five acids between. The remaining twelve (said three, two or one ways) take the twelve Simples. Within each class, acids sit in the order they first appear in the standard codon table, more-codons first. It is a mechanical rule, stated so it can be overruled.

4 · The 88 Constellations ↔ The 88 Elements

Why this pairingThe sky has exactly 88 official constellations. Count the elements of matter from hydrogen up to radium and you reach exactly 88. Two celestial/material 88s, one wheel. This is a count-match, offered as a lens.

The pairing is ordinal — pending the author's ruling: the constellations in the standard alphabetical order by their Latin names (the order the International Astronomical Union lists them), beside the elements in atomic-number order. Number 88 is Radium — the owner's noted 'glowing one': it shines faintly blue-green in the dark by its own radioactivity, and it is the element Marie Curie named for that light. The twelve constellations the Sun walks through are marked with their zodiac glyph, since the site's twelve Simple letters live there. Scroll inside the box for all 88 rows.

Why stop at 88? Because radium is where the wheel closes in this lens. A commonly quoted count for the naturally occurring elements is also 88 — the 92 up to uranium, minus four that exist only in vanishing traces — though that number shifts with how strictly “naturally occurring” is defined. And a piano, for what it is worth, has 88 keys.

What this is and isn’t
What it is
  • Two structural matches: the 4 and the 64. On both sides they arise from two yes/no choices per letter and three letters per word. That shape is real and the reason the bridge has been drawn by others for fifty years.
  • Two count-matches: 22 signals beside 22 letters, 88 constellations beside 88 elements. A count-match is an invitation, not an argument.
  • For each bridge, one proposed lens — a stated rule you can check, follow, or reject.
What it isn’t
  • Not biology. Science assigns no element to any base, no hexagram to any codon, no Hebrew letter to any amino acid. The genetic code on this page is accurate; the correspondences drawn from it are ours.
  • Not a guide to health or genetics. Nothing here should inform a medical, dietary or genetic decision.
  • Not settled inside the system either. Tables 2, 3 and 4 use mechanical orderings marked “pending the author’s ruling.” When the author rules, the lens changes and this page will say so.
Checked, and what the check found — 10 September 2026

The biology on this page was re-derived line by line against the standard genetic code (NCBI translation table 1) rather than taken on trust. All 64 codons match it exactly. Every codon count in table 3 is right: three acids really are said six ways, five really do hold a whole family box of four, and the remaining twelve really do take three, two or one — 3 + 5 + 12 = 20 acids, plus start and stop, makes the 22. Table 4 holds 88 constellations with no duplicate and no omission, in true alphabetical order by Latin name, beside the elements in atomic order with gold at 79 and radium at 88. And the binary lens is not merely suggestive but exactly one-to-one: the 64 codons map onto 64 distinct hexagrams with nothing repeated and nothing left over — including the claim made a few paragraphs above, that UUU lands on hexagram 2 and GGG on hexagram 1. Both do. Nothing on this page needed correcting.

Open questions for the author’s ruling: (a) whether Tav or a fourth reading of the Mothers should carry Earth in table 1; (b) which two yes/no questions make the bigram, and whether the first base is the bottom or the top pair, in table 2; (c) whether Methionine, the acid every chain begins with, belongs on Yod — the seed-point — rather than where the mechanical rule leaves it, in table 3; (d) whether the constellations should run alphabetically, by area of sky, or by the Sun’s path, in table 4.

Why the 64 are joined to DNA here and not to the zodiac wheel is a ruling with a history, and The Lineage tells it: Human Design makes the opposite call and divides the circle by 64 anyway, which gives 5.625° a hexagram. Sixty-four codons against sixty-four hexagrams needs no such remainder — which is the entire reason this page exists.
