Why 3 · 7 · 12? Where the tier names come from
The three numbers on the cards are not marketing — they are the oldest sorting of the Hebrew alphabet on record. A short, strange, very old book called the — the “Book of Formation,” dated by scholars anywhere from roughly the 2nd to the 7th century CE and traditionally attributed to Abraham — describes the world as being formed through of the Hebrew alphabet. It divides those letters into exactly three classes: , , and . Three plus seven plus twelve is twenty-two. That arithmetic is the whole reason the tiers are shaped the way they are.
Each class carries its own traditional territory. The three Mothers — Aleph, Mem, Shin — are tied to the three primal elements of the old cosmology: air, water, and fire. The seven Doubles are letters that classically had two pronunciations each, a hard sound and a soft one; tradition pairs them with the seven classical planets, the seven days of the week, and seven pairs of opposites such as wisdom and folly, peace and war. The twelve Simples each make a single sound, and tradition assigns them to the twelve signs of the zodiac, the twelve months, and twelve human faculties. So the smallest class is the elemental foundation, the middle class is the moving, planetary layer, and the largest class is the fully embodied, zodiacal layer — which is exactly the progression the three readings follow, from foundation to joining layer to everything.
The same little book is also where come from: it says the letters were combined in pairs, each letter with every other, and twenty-two letters taken two at a time make 231 pairs — the “gates” you will meet all over this site. One honest caveat, because the tradition itself is honest about it: surviving manuscripts of the Sefer Yetzirah disagree on the fine details — different versions assign the Doubles to the planets in different orders, for instance. The three-class structure itself is stable across every version; the letter-by-letter assignments are a matter of which recension you follow, and readers of have argued about them for a thousand years. Where a reading leans on one assignment rather than another, that is an interpretive choice, not a settled fact.
Which letters are in each class?
The three Mothers: Aleph, Mem, Shin. The seven Doubles: Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Kaf, Pe, Resh, Tav. The twelve Simples: He, Vav, Zayin, Chet, Tet, Yod, Lamed, Nun, Samekh, Ayin, Tsadi, Qof. Every letter of the Hebrew alphabet appears in exactly one class — nothing is left over and nothing is counted twice, which is part of why the scheme has felt complete to readers for so many centuries.
None of this is behind anything, and none of it is a trial. The work explaining the system is the point of the site; the readings are a separate thing you can want or not want.
These are symbolic readings drawn from a symbolic system. They are not medical, psychological, financial or legal advice, they diagnose nothing, and they predict no facts about the world. What they offer is a structured way of looking at a life — which is worth something, and is a different thing from being true about the world. Nothing here should be used in place of a doctor, a therapist, or a professional adviser.
Everything you generate on this site — the free instruments and the self-serve readings — runs on birth data saved in this browser only and never uploaded; the Forget my details button on the Begin page erases it. The three hand-prepared letter-class tiers are the one exception: for those, you send your birth details and email yourself, in the PayPal note, so the author can write your reading and send it back — this website itself collects nothing.
